Basil Is Home!
I finally got Basil's remains. He was privately cremated, as all our other dogs did. Apparently, he was ready to come home on May 6, and the Vet hospital claims that they called and left a message, but I didn't get the message. I was wondering when I'd be able to get him to make his final journey home. So I called today to find out when he'd be ready, and they told me that he was there waiting for me. I picked him up right away.

As I walked into the hospital, a woman was coming out crying. I knew her pain. I wanted to hug her and tell her how sorry I was. But I didn't. I wasn't sure that she'd take it well. It was unfortunate that I saw her crying, because my tears were welling up in my eyes. So when the receptionist asked me whether she could help me, as I was telling her that I was picking up Basil's remains, I choked up and had to fight back the tears.

All my pets are placed in a special place in my living room. We do not bury their ashes. We have a faux grandfather clock that my father bought us when we were newly weds. From all the moves that hubby and I made during the early years of our marriage, the clock hands broke off at around the time that my father died. Because the clock was something he bought me, I was not able to throw it out when it broke. Then my first pet died and I decided to place her behind the broken clock. The idea was for her to be able to see us from the place where time stops. With Basil, we now have six pets behind that clock. My mom asked me today whether I would ever bury them, and without thinking, I told her that I want them to be buried with me. I guess, I made my first plan for the day I will be gone, too.

The clock!

I don't think that I need to explain!

He was a great dog, I miss him so much.

And now, we have to worry all over again. Our cat Brie, who like Basil, is suffering from renal failure, is going through the same thing Basil was going through. She is not eating. Turkey cold cut is the only thing she wants to eat. She is going to the vet on Monday. Hopefully, they will be able to do something to increase her lifespan. Your thoughts, prayers, or whatever you do for others in times of trouble is very much appreciated.

Prayers our with you
My prayers go out to you and your family. I know how hard this time can be. We lost a dog in 1997 and I still miss her. Now we have a dog that we are treating for skin cancer and hoping for the best. I am in pain about it everyday.
We also found a cat that seems to have feline aids. It is so painful. When they go it is loosing a member of your family and hurts just as much. I hope Brie gets help and you can extend her life like we are trying to do with our dog.

So they just called once and were just going to wait until you got back to them? Crazy. I'm glad you were able to get him finally, though.

And awww, Brie. :( I'm sorry to hear that she's under the weather, too. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Yeah, I thought so, too.

Thanks.

My thoughts to you, always.

All I can hope is that at some point, you will again bring another resuce pet into your house, because I can't think of anyplace where they'd be happier. (Unless it was my house! :D)

Thanks. And as far as getting another rescue into our home, well, I am working on it. I have a beautiful girl in mind. I just hope that I'll be able to get her. There's someone else interested in her as well. Keep your fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, she was adopted by the other party.

Awww! But that just means that YOUR dog is still out there, waiting.

Yeah, she is still waiting for her mama. miss_sophia said that it might be for the best, as I won't be home part of July. Maybe August is the month to look. Or, maybe, like Cinnamon, she will one day pop in front me on the street and say, "You're mine."

I wasn't looking for Carrie - she just happened to us! And I was apprehensive about Catie being too soon after Jasper, but she was the shot of joy we needed. They all come at the right time.

BIG hugs.

So sorry about your sweet Basil.

Last August we lost our 12 year old pug Mogey to a brain tumor and even though I work in a veterinary hospital having Mo put to sleep was definitely one of the hardest things I ever had to do.

I purposely took him to another clinic where a veterinarian (and good friend) of mine worked so I wouldn't go to work everyday and be reminded of Mogey. Didn't work as well as I thought though...I was still thinking about him.

When they called and told me to come get his ashes I simply couldn't do it and called my ex hubby and asked (or begged) him to go pick them up.

He told me he choked up the second he pulled into the parking lot of the vet hospital.

My ex brought his ashes to me but I made him take them to his house... it was just to hard for me. Someday I'll actually go pick them up.

I still have 2 pugs that keep me busy and made losing Mo a bit easier.

Again, sorry for your loss & hugs & prayers to your kitty.

It is so hard losing our four-legged friends.
