I Have Not Forgotten You

As you all may have surmised, I am consumed with the worst animal cruelty case I have ever encountered. I cannot phantom that a human being, in fact, a woman (women are supposed to be nurturers, not tormentors), could do such a terrible act.

I found out about Patrick when I was surfing the Internet for an article to write for my basset hound blog. Generally, I just write a human-interest dog story for the blog and spend the rest of my time with LJ. Patrick's story so moved me, that I started seeing the need to share it with you as well. My apologies to those who are offended by the bombardment of stories. Luckily, the news are now uplifting. Patrick is healing.

I am also very involved in creating a stronger law that would give harsher punishment for animal abuser's. I am trying to get picked to represent the state of Maryland, which would involve coordinating volunteers and contacting legislators and contacting the media and educating them to view animal abuse as a felony and not a misdemeanor.

In essence, if I don't answer your replies and/or don't comment on your entry, it's not that I am not reading them (I am reading them--in fact, I rather stop reading my books), it's just that I ran out of time, but will make time over the weekend.

Love you all.

And I'm not commenting on a lot of these posts — not because I don't care, but because I lack words and am heartbroken by him.

I too don't know what to say. The total insensitivity and, in some cases, outright sadism of some people towards animals shocks me and breaks my heart more than I can express. I can hardly bear to read such stories of cruelty knowing how little there is I can do, but I'm glad to hear Patrick is healing. I admire you for taking on this task to create stronger laws and enforcement against animal cruelty. I wish you nothing less than complete success! Thanks for devoting your time to this worthy cause.

To quote Ghandi, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Also, "To my mind the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. ... I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to the protection by man from the cruelty of man."

It's a heartbreaking story, but it's a joy to see how he's recovering.

I think this is perhaps the best reason ever to not be replying to LJ stuff. I wish you a lot of luck with your work here in Maryland.

Oh, good luck with the representative job, that kind of law needs to happen faster.

I've been reading your updates--you and a few others on my flist seem to find the news faster than I can, so it's easier for me to find out how Patrick's holding up.
