Dean Koontz thought he had everything he needed. A novelist for nearly forty years, with more than twenty #1 New York Times bestsellers to his credit , his career was thriving. He had been married to his high school sweetheart, Gerda, since the age of twenty, and together they had forged a happy life for themselves in their Southern California home. It was the picture of peace and contentment. Then along came Trixie. Dean had been researching his novel Midnight - a book which includes a service dog named Moose - when he came across Canine Companions for Independence. Never having had a pet, the last thing he was looking to do was adopt a dog...but that's what happened a few years later when a beautiful golden retriever named Trixie was retired from CCI service because of an elbow injury - and that put her in need of a home of her own. Once in Dean and Gerda's home, Trixie very quickly found a way into their hearts. A Big Little Life tells the story of unexpectedly falling in love with a dog in middle age. It details Trixie's life with Dean and Gerda, the tremendous impact she had on them, and the things she taught them along the way. A lively and joyful read, it presents Trixie in all her complicated glory - her smarts, her lack of vanity, and her uncanny knack for living in the present. A powerful tribute to a beautiful friend, A Big Little Life will remind readers everywhere that the love of our canine best friends is a love that lasts more than a lifetime. (less)

(Kindle edition, naturally)

LOL That's okay. Have you read any of Koontz other books?

No, this is my first book. I like his writing style. So, I'll probably read more of his books after I finish this one.

I definitely don't agree with his politics.

Where the heck did that come from? I was saying I'd recommend some of his books. I don't know a thing about his politics.

I Googled him. I always like to know whom I'm supporting. Not sure I want to support him.

So you don't want to buy any of his books?
Spicedogs: Not amusedspicedogs on July 20th, 2011 09:47 pm (UTC)
Damn right, I won't. I don't want to be the catalyst to allow this man to give money to the Republican party, the party that wants to do away with the middle class and make the lower class poorer. Granted that he has enough money, anyway. But at least, it won't be my money. I'm just sorry that I bought this book without doing the research,

Fine. You had said you wanted to read more of his books. I was only asking. There's always used and borrowed books. I don't think I've ever had a brand new book of his.

Yeah, I did want to read his books. But that was before I found out how much money he gave to the Republican party, to Mitt Romney, and to McCain's 2008 campaign to the White House.

I have to think about my conscience and borrowing his books. I will definitely not buy.

The sad thing is that years ago, I wouldn't have cared. But the Reoublicans became so partisan and anti anyone who is not rich. They want to crush the middle class. They blame Obama for W's mistakes that I see no other way of handling the situation but to shut them out of my world.

The shelters that are killing precious 4-legged lives are doing so because there's no money for social causes. There's no money for social causes because the rich are not being taxed. They are being spared, even though the majority welcome the taxes. It's so screwed up.
