I and some friends went to see The Jersey Boys. There were 14 of us in the theatre. Eight of us rented a limo to go to the theatre.

Here's the limo at our doors.

Basil is now eating dog food (not the special kidney diet that he  needs to eat, but it's dog food), walks around the perimeter of our backyard (it's half an acre big and he was not going past the side door), started a couple of fights with Carrie, and sleeps in his own bed. I don't know what I can attribute this miracle to, but I am loving it. Thank you all for your concerns. I hope that these good news will last a long while.

I cooked some chicken with garlic and rice for Basil. He ate the chicken and left the rice untouched. I gave him some dog biscuits and up till today, he never refused his biscuit. In fact, I used to give him a few more than usual. I figured that anything in his stomach was worth it for me at this point. But, alas, today, he refused it.  I don't want to face that this may be the beginning of the end. *sigh*

We really don't know his age. I think that he is 13. My vet thinks that Basil is 15. No matter what his age is, he is one of those lucky dogs who is living a long life. And boy, on top of it all, he is loved.

Now onto something not so depressing: It was beautiful outside, and we had a new neighbor moving in. She is a beautiful 15-week-old golden retriever. The dogs were excited to meet her, and I managed to take nice pictures of Carrie and Basil. I hope you enjoy them.

Every Memorial Day Weekend, Garrison Keillor brings his show A Prairie Home Companion to the Washington, DC area and it is broadcast from the wonderful Filene Center at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. I went to see him this Friday, May 22. He is so popular that, in order to satisfy his fans, he allows the fans who weren't able to purchase tickets to the live show to watch dress rehearsal. I bought my tickets 6 months ago. And all I could get tickets for were on Friday, off to the side way at the end of the orchestra. I also bought tickets for Saturday, which were near the last rows in the balcony. Later on, I was able to obtain sweet (but expensive) tickets in the orchestra pit.

My first movie was Walt Disney's Bambi. I was 3 years old. It touched my heart so much. Of course, when Bambi lost his mother, it affected me very much. At three, you can't imagine life without your mother. But I was also delighted in Thumper's and Bambi's friendship. And now, I am proud to show you a true-life Bambi and Thumper type of friendship. Just click on the LJ-cut to view it.

There are these creepy creatures around my neighborhood. I was under the impression that they were vultures. Hubby told me that they couldn't be vultures, as vultures don't live in the east, only in the west. He said that they were ravens. It made sense, after all Edgar Allan Poe, who lived not far from us, wrote about the raven in his poem, The Raven.

A few weeks ago, I took my first set of photos of these creatures. That shot actually won an award in my camera club photo contest, and the judge called them buzzards.

Today, I went out and took more pictures. I found them nesting on a tree next to my neighbor’s house. As she and I are not in good terms (due to my son parking in front of her window and she was sick and tired of looking at this Lexus, our relationship deteriorated. You can read about it here: http://spicedogs.livejournal.com/307597.html), I tried not to get too close to her house. But once again, the desire for the photo overcame the desire not to make waves. Luckily, she didn’t say anything about my trespassing her property. Maybe she thought that I was taking pictures to have the human society come and take the birds away from our yards. Anyway, as I approached her back yard, I found out that the birds were in another property, in another street, directly behind our house. So I drove there and approached the birds as close as they would let me. Once I came home and converted the RAW pictures into JPG, I found that, indeed, they are vultures, or buzzards.

It's that time again. My camera club will have another competition on November 24. As I am undergoing surgery next week, I have to start thinking today about which photos I would like to enter.  I can enter a total of five photos: two digital and three actual photos.

Here are the photos that I am thinking of entering. )

It's a known fact that I love miso soup. Ambereen and Ethan surprised me with a gift of ready-made miso soup. I cut some green onions and added cubed tofu to the water, boiled it, and then added the powder. I had no idea that the powder already had my ingredients in it. It didn't matter, I love it. It was nice to have a lot of tofu in it.
