My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I read the entire Hunger Games series. The first book (Hunger Games) was a real page turner. I finished it in 24 hours. I just couldn't put it down. The amse was for the second book, Catching Fire. But the third book, was pure torture. It took me 3 weeks to get done. The subject was not as interesting. Katniss was in the peripheral of the action, and frankly the triangle romance was boring as anything.
Actually, I found that the characters in the series did not have much depth. The storyline was a page turner because I wanted to know how the battles would fare out. The battles were extremely well thought out and planned out. But the author did not work much on the psychological make up of the characters. It was obvious that the Hunger Games traumatized each winner. But how they were traumatized was not very much developed. So when, in the third book, Katniss was no longer fighting for her life and was deciding on her love life, it was so one-dimensional that it bored me to death.
I am still amazed that this series is recommended for young readers. The level of violence was gory. It was not something that I would like my children to read.
