Becoming Sister Wives—Book Review
Becoming Sister Wives: The Story of an Unconventional MarriageBecoming Sister Wives: The Story of an Unconventional Marriage by Kody Brown

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am a firm believer that no one has a right to stop consenting adults from marrying whom they love, including same-gender couples, as well as multiple couples. I am by nature monogamous, but cannot see anyone who is polyamorous or those who believe in polygamy from marrying. I do not believe that you can force young children and women into plural marriage, but if they believe in that life style, so be it. The Brown family are just a proof of 5 consenting adults who believe in a plural life style and make it work.

This book is well organized. Each chapter represents a wife's or Kody's viewpoint about a certain aspect of the problems they face as a plural household, be it in raising children, introducing a new wife, financial problems, etc. I, personally, don't believe in bringing so many children into this world. However, they manage to love and provide for those children. Nobody is collecting welfare. The family is autonomous and self-sufficient.

I have to admit that I like the Brown family. I like them while watching their show and I like them after reading their story. I don't find them threatening. They live a life style that I personally would not choose. But they are able to show the pluses and are not afraid to reveal that they face a lot of jealousy among each other, and nonetheless are able to overcome them and work together for the greater of their family.

This is a great book about understanding a form of life style that are chosen by consenting adults. Do I believe that they should be in jail for practicing this life style? No. And through this book, the Brown family is able to show that they are no different than the average family who love and cherish their spouse and children.
