Emily and Einstein: A Novel of Second ChancesEmily and Einstein: A Novel of Second Chances by Linda Francis Lee

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I LOVED, LOVED this book. I loved the premise and yes, I cried at the end. The book of second chances was just a delight to read.

The storyline is about Emily and Sandy Portman. Sandy, a rich but shallow man is bored with his 4-year marriage to Emily. On the way to tell her that he wants a divorce, he is accidentally killed. When Sandy finds out that he is dead, he begs for mercy and a second chance. He gets it, in the form of an old dog, Einstein...

Naturally, Emily adopts Einstein and then the story really begins. Sandy has to prove himself worthy of the second chance. He has to somehow save Emily. But Sandy, as Einstein does not change overnight. He is still grumpy, selfish, shallow, etc. But as the days turn into months, we see some metamorphosis.

I won't say anymore about the book. You must read it. It is an enjoyable page turner. But make sure to have some Kleenex on hand towards the end. I, unfortunately, had none when I got there, and I was on a commuter train to boot. I must have made a lovely sight for my fellows commuters.

The ending was not as I wanted, but it was satisfying. I'd love to see this book transformed into a movie. If only I had the money.....

Sounds like a good and touching book.

That sounds like a really good story, but that "not as I wanted" comment about the ending has me a little worried.

I had a vision of Einstein coming back as a human and falling in love with Emily. Didn't happen. That's the only spoiler you'll hear. If you read the book, I'd be glad to voice my other wishes.

That's what I was afraid of!

Nonetheless, the ending was quite good.
